The Forest and Wood Technology Research Centre Foundation

We help to generate knowledge to be applied to development and sustainable management, which is fundamental to society, industry and the environment.

The CETEMAS Foundation is a private, not-for-profit organisation, constituted in 2009 at the initiative of a group of companies from the forestry sector and the regional Government, and it is part of the network of Technology Centres of the Principality of Asturias.

The development of our strategy has taken into account the FIELDS OF SPECIALISATON of the RIS3, specifically in terms of advanced and sustainable materials, agroalimentary markets and supply (network technologies). In addition, the new strategy continues to address the guidance of the Regional Directorate of Forestry Management which focuses on improving sustainable forestry production and the development of forestry management tools and, in particular, the Strategic Plan for Sweet Chestnut.

In its Strategic Plan 2018-2021 the CETEMAS Foundation has, of course, taken into account the objectives of the RIS3 of the Principality of Asturias, as a result of which we have embraced emerging technologies (IoT, Industry 4.0, active and passive sensors, etc.) which have become established elements of the technological environment in recent years.

In view of the changes occurring in the technological marketplace, the CETEMAS Foundation needs to address its strategic planning in order to ensure it is appropriately prepared and positioned in this fast-moving environment. As such, the Foundation recently carried out a redefinition of its strategy which resulted in the definition of the technologies that are essential to facing the challenges and needs of the market within which we work as well as other fields where they can be applied.

As Technology Centres, we work in the development of technology and innovation and the transfer of knowledge and innovation to companies. To this end, the Foundation enters into agreements and contracts, provides services to and receives financial support from public and private institutions, both national and international.

It was declared a “foundation of public interest” on 13 April 2009, was classified as a teaching centre and entered in the Register of Teaching and Cultural Foundations of General Interest of the Principality of Asturias with the reference code of 33/FDC 0137.

The aim of the CETEMAS Foundation is to participate in a range of activities and actions that promote and publicise research and development (R&D) and innovation in all areas of the various sectors involved in the Forestry Industry value chain.
